Firstly, the most informative sites and best deals are not based in the US for Europe. You need to access local sites based in Europe with US customer service.
There’s a directory called Tourism Rankings which provides links to all the National Tourism Offices in Europe. Here’s the link:

I use these sites for hotels in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe, respectively, and have never had any problems: http://www.hotels.nl/ and http://www.venere.com/ .

Train travel is often a good way to go. A lot of people use the Eurail passes http://www.eurail.com/ ; however, it is often cheaper to just buy point-to-point tickets directly from the national railroads. This is especially true if you use the faster trains instead of the regional trains because there are additional supplements to pay in addition to the pass cost. There are often discounts available on direct tickets if you purchase far enough in advance. For example, look for the Amica fare on the faster trains here in Italy (at least 1 day in advance of the trip; savings of up to 20%). You can find the national railroad sites by searching for “train” and the name of the country you’re interested in. Where is the best place to travel and see the most sites in Europe?
I am an anthropology major. Naturally, i love anything having to do with it. I love history, culture, archaeology and religion. I am also a broke college student. So where is the best place to travel to with locations nearby encompassing all sorts of fun things? Castles, Churches, old archaeological sites, etc….Not stonehenge. You can’t walk among them. I want to interact ! The road less traveled is always good, but I am open to anything !
