There are many job opportunities for a nursing assistant certified by the state. For example, during the post World War II era, there were many babies born that are now still living and are in dire need of someone to take care of them. Numerous individuals are willing to pay just to have someone assist them in their activities of daily living (ADLs). In addition to that, there are also opportunities to work in a hospital setting also abundant. If you are thinking of becoming a certified nursing assistant, then here are the ways on how you can become one.
• One of the very first things that you have to do is to assess yourself if this is indeed the career that you want and that you are ready to serve those who are in need. If you want to start a career with healthcare, you must keep in mind that you must have a nurturing attitude and enough patience to deal with your patients.
• If you are already sure that you indeed want this career, then you must prepare your school records. If you are a high school graduate, get your diploma. If not, it is highly advisable that you get a general equivalency diploma or GED.
• When you already have your high school diploma, all you have to do next is to choose a CNA school and enroll. You have to attend twelve weeks of their program. You can enroll either in a physical class or in an online CNA course. The learning you will get is what you will use when you want to become a nursing assistant certified by the state that you want to practice. You have to make sure though, that the school you are going to enroll at is part of the accredited schools by your state.
• If you cannot afford to pay your CNA program, you can check out financial supports and grants from various organizations. Some hospitals are willing to foot your nursing assistant program in exchange of your services after you graduate. Make sure that you complete the requirements to qualify for the financial aid. If you are familiar with any of these, it is best that you grab the opportunity to add to your experience and the security of a job after your training.
• After completing the program, which may probably involve a training course as well, it is important that you get in touch with the office of the state licensing office and inquire about the requirements that you need to have in order to take the certification exam. Becoming certified is often necessary to be able to give the employers an idea of how you are going to perform during the job. It is also best that you pass the certification so that you have better job opportunities.
Becoming a nursing assistant certified by the state will give you better rewards and career advancements. It would also be easier to become a registered nurse in the future.

QUESTION:
What are some good careers for Washington STATE?
I know I can look online to see which pay the most & that are in "high-demand"... But I want to know from PERSONAL experience.I'm CONSIDERING.....Pharmacy Technician, Radiological Technician, Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant.... something along those lines.
Pharm. Tech & Ragiolog. Tech are my top 2 choices so far...My only issue with Pharm. Tech & Radiolog. Tech is that i'm not "the best" at math...I mean, once I learn it ("it" refering to the type of math involved with either career).. I'm really good at it. I'm just nervous as to whether I catch on as fast as the other classmates.
My issue with Med. Asst - I don't mind working with people, BUT...In some clinics/hospitals you have to clean up pee, poop, & whatever else.. & i'm just not comfortable with that.
Dental Asst- There are not TOO many job opportunities in Washington. My friend graduated this year and she did find a job EVENTUALLY but there wasn't too many places hiring, & if there was, they wanted experience
Does anyone else have any suggestions? Or....anyone in WASHINGTON state that are currently working in one of those careers.. tell me how easy it was for u to get your job, salary, suggestions, tips... anything!Thank you!

ANSWER:
you should really get a job that you are going to enjoy doing and not one where you think will be the most profitable one, but being a radiological technician is a lot of fun you met different people and work in a great environment,

QUESTION:
In the State of Washington can I be fired for being hospitalized and having to recover?
I work at a college in Washington State, and one of the things in my contract says that I have to have 8 credits of regular classes plus 2 of student government to hold my position. This would normally be fine, but recently my appendix ruptured and went untreated for eight days. This caused me to need immediate emergency surgery to have it removed and my lower internal area cleaned due to the amount of time it had been spilling bad stuff into me.
After a nine day stay at the hospital and one week at home I am still recovering. The surgeon said I wouldn't be able to be back on full duty for at least a few more weeks and has written a note to that effect. This caused me to have to drop the 10 of the 12 credits I had leaving me with just 2 student government credits.
Even while I was in the hospital and while I have been at home, I have continued to perform my job duties. My boss/adviser is trying to have me fired because I got sick and couldn't attend class. Can he do this? please cite-

QUESTION:
Hard to get LPN job in WA state?
hi we're just hoping to move some where in Washington state... Not just Seattle. We are terrified that we may not find a job anywhere as a LPN there. My dad is a newly grad LPN but he does do spinal and he has worked for another big hospital for 10 years before becoming a LPN. He also is trying to be a RN within a year. He would like to be in the rush of a hospital again but for now he just works at the Veterans Affair's here. How hard is it to get a job as a LPN in WA? Is one area better than the other?
Also is this about right?
http://www.indeed.com/salary?q1=Licensed+Vocational+Nurse++lvn&l1=seattle%2C+wa-
ANSWER:
The Link you provided was quite interesting. Plugging in LPN returns a average salary of 41K - 12% lower than the national average. 41K does not go very far in the Pacific Northwest.I have worked in/for hospitals over the last 20+ years and I can tell you that hospitals have moved strongly away from hiring LPN's. Hospitals exclusively hire RN's. Period. I know this from hiring managers and HR people I work with. That's not to say you cannot get a job in healthcare with a LPN; it just would be at as a home heath aid, in a assisted living facility, etc... not in a hospital.
If he is in a RN program, there is no way he should leave it. The RN programs out here are very competitive; having long wait lists. Get the RN first, then come out.

QUESTION:
What are my chances of getting into the University of Washington in Seattle? I applied on December 1st.?
What are my chances at the U? I'm a Washington resident.Ok here goes.
GPA: 3.428. Dropped from about 3.6 after getting a singular "F" in precalculus II...long story, but basically it wasn't my fault, and I explained in my app essay. Am retaking right now and have a 97% average in the class.
SAT: 1970
CR: 620
Math: 610
Writing: 740
German: 400 (I don't know how this happened...my best friend is German, I have been learning for four years, and am almost fluent)
Math Level II: 550Should I retake??
Academics: I'm a full time Running Start Student and have been since my junior year. I am enrolled in premedical biology, advanced German, and have completed most of my GECRs already...like English 201 which I got a 4.0 in. I have done very well in RS...except for the C+/B- I got in my first Premedical bio class this last quarer.... I am already technically a sophomore in college as I have accumulated 45 college credits; my college GPA is just over a 3.6
Took AP government summer of 08 at Georgetown University through the Junior State of America Foundation. It was pretty hard to get into.
Took AP US History soph. year but only got a 2 on the test.....
EC's:
JSA (mock congresses, politics, debate kind of thing)
Orchestra (violinist since age 10)
Wrote for EWU newspaper "The Easterner", and was paid to interview people and write news/opinion stories...and even did a story on Sec. of State Sam Reed.
Girls JV XC one year
Volunteered at local hospital; I earned a pharmacy assistant's license through the Washington State department of health and volunteered for the hospitals inpatient pharmacy as well as the phlebotomy lab (ran blood and urine samples to and from the lab)
Chosen to be one of 4 out of 50+ applicants for the prestigous Sacred Heart Medical Center job shadow.
Was accepted to be one of the 350 students nationwide to participate in the Georgetown University JSA summer school in Washington DC...I met with various senators and even got to talk with my congresswoman for a half and hour.
As for hobbies..I am good at drawing, I compose my own music, I do ballet under the direction of a local ballerina at her studio (though I took a break this quarter...too much to do...), and I have become recently involved through EWU's music department as a soprano singer after taking a voice class. Both of my music professors confided in me after class and told me that they thought I had a lot of "natural talent"...now I really like singing, and am taking more singing classes at EWU.I want to be an opera singer and a physician....at the same time...
I wrote really awesome essays....but after I submitted my app I found a couple of typos that I haden't seen before (they were REALLY good essays though)....I just finished editing them and am going to send them to UW in the mail with a cover letter included.
Thanks for chancing me. I'm also applying to Western just in case...

ANSWER:
Here are some sites you see how you compare to UW averages:
http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/?q=University+of+Washington&s=all&l=5&ct=1&ic=1&id=236948or
http://college.mychances.net/college-1585-University-of-Washington_admissions-statistics.html
Your GPA is fine. Your SAT scores are in the solid upper half of UW accepted students. You've got service and EC's out the wazoo. One F in precalc isn't going to phase them, especially since you are currently showing it was a freak accident.
I've never determined that the College board subject tests have any use other than to make llarge sums of money for the college board. Bad German score only matters if you were hoping to opt out of a semester or two of German and to start 2nd year German, and they'll probably adminster their own tests anyways. Same with the Math II, may get used a bit to decide what calculus sequence to plop you into, but probably not even then. Also, at this juncture, new scores couldn't possibly reach the admissions office before decision time.
My only questions are:
1) Why are you worried about getting in to UW? Not to be harsh (hey I got my PhD at UW), but UW ain't all that selective - they accept about 65-70% of applicants. With your scores and background you would have a decent (I'd argue better than 50-50) chance at the Stanfords and Ivy's, so why isn't your question about Stanford or Yale? Or at least Reed and Cornell?2) Once you are a doctor, if for some reason I ever have to go to you for a medical emergency, can you please promise to not sing opera? It would scare me to death. Frank Sinatra, Johhny Cash, Sinead O'Conner, Ella Fitzgerald, Pink, Lady GaGa, I can handle. but just not opera. Please.

QUESTION:
Do I need a prescription for birth control?
I've been on Kaiser Permanente all my life...ever since I can remember.I got married in June, and the day I got married, I got removed from my dad's health insurance/coverage. So we signed me up to the health coverage with my husband's old work. But he changed jobs and we moved to Washington (state), and his new job puts all their new employees on a 90 day probation period before they allow them to sign on to health coverage.
I'm on two medications: medicine for seizures and birth control. I got the biggest refills I could (90-days) a week before I got married so I would be covered. Between now and then, I've needed more refills, and even though I had to pay for them, I was able to order a 30-day refill and pick them up at a pharmacy at a grocery store.
Well, I need another refill now, and we still have one more month before the new health coverage kicks in...but apparently, I was only able to get those other refills at the store pharmacy because I happened to have more refills available (from the last time I saw my doctor at Kaiser). Last month, when I ordered the refills, they called my doctor at Kaiser down in California, I guess it was for her approval or something? I'm not sure if it's because I don't have anymore refills left or if it's because it's taken this long to officially drop me from my dad's coverage, but when I tried to put in an order for another refill last week, they called me back and said it wasn't approved.
So, what do I need to do? We have no health coverage. Can I just call any hospital near me and set up an appointment with a doctor? How much will that cost? Will the cost be a solid number for the visit, or is it based on the time spent in the office? All I need to do is go in, show him or her my pill bottles (with my name, and the name and dosage size of the prescription), and have him or her give me a new prescription for the same medicine. Is there going to be any sort of weird policies in Washington or the hospital I choose that can that keep this from being a simple "in and out" transaction?
Why, of all things, is BIRTH CONTROL under such ridiculous supervision?
-
ANSWER:
Contact you local free clinic, or Planned Parenthood (see link below.) They offer low cost services. Hopefully they'll give you a Rx for generic pills. The contraceptive won't be a problem, but be sure to bring the Rx bottle for your seizure med so the doc will feel comfortable giving you the same thing.Usually a hospital is the most expensive place to get care so avoid that.
Every industrialized country (except the US) provides health care to their citizens. Call your members of Congress and demand a public health insurance option. The # is 202-225-3121. If you don't know who your Senators/House Rep is, just give the switchboard operator your ZIP code and she'll connect you.
(Special note to you "Oh, no! SOCIALISM!!!" nitwits: What about the word "option" do you not understand? If you don't want it, decline it. And it would be paid for with PREMIUMS, not your tax $.)As to your last question: Unfortunately, there are people who think that sex is only for procreation between married people, and there shouldn't be ANY birth control. And some of these people set public policy. And yes, that's pretty pathetic.

QUESTION:
Medical Transcription From Home. Anyone know how to get a legitimate job doing MT from home?
My wife was a very skilled and highly praised Medical Transcriptionist before she was accepted a different position for more money. She's recently been laid off and not able to find a job in Washington state because it sucks here. She's looked, and the hospitals don't seem to have MTs working on site anymore like they were in 1997 when she was working as a MT Supervisor and Transcriptionist. Anyone know where we can find a legit job working from home as an MT, and actually make enough money to make the mortgage payment?-
ANSWER:
Sorry I can"'t point you to anything, but please be careful of any places that claim to let you work at home, but want you to pay them to apply or learn more. All such set ups are scams. A legitimate employer won't make you pay anything to apply or to work for them.

QUESTION:
Is it common for college graduates to move out of their home state for job prospects?
Im a high school junior and ive been thinking about college graduation...I live in the Northeastern US in Pennslyvania, and in my town, the job market has been declining for years and will continue to decline. In fact, the town has been officially termed "economically depressed" by the government since before I was born. I plan on entering the medical field as a Physician Assistant, but even hospitals are cutting back here, and I don't think it's entirely recession-related.So, do you think it would be uncommon to move out of state after college graduation? I want to remain close to my family, and its nice having a somewhat short trip to Pittsburgh and Washington. However, there is simply no opportunity here.
Since the South is expanding health-care wise, Im thinking of the Raleigh area where some of my extended family has relocated. It would be great to have a better climate (I cannot stand cold PA winters). Also, I'd have a short trip to the Outer Banks, my absoulte haven from Pennslyvania. On the other hand, the South is socially conservative, and being a gay Libertarian atheist, I don't think I'd fit in very well.
What to you think?
-
ANSWER:
If you aren't picky about the area of medicine you are working in you will be able to find a job anywhere you want to live. Especially because it will be 8-10 years before you are actually working as a PA. With the current health care reform the demand for "mid-level' practitioners is only going to get greater. Because Socialized medicine is going to add tens of millions of people into the system that didn't have health insurance and were less likely to seek medical care before unless it was absolutely necessary. The current projections suggest a shortage of 20-40 THOUSAND mid level care providers by the year 2020 and that was before health care reform. For more information on PA's check out aapa.org and www.physicianassistantforum.com

Are speech-language pathologists really in demand?
I am interested in becoming an SLP and I would ideally like to work in a hospital with dysphagia patients. QUESTION:
How do you feel about How Illegal Aliens Hurt America’s Senior Citizens?
Much has been written about the harm that illegal aliens cause to Americans, legal aliens, hospitals, governments, and others in the U.S. In this article, I will explain some of the ways in which the millions of illegal aliens in America hurt America’s senior citizens.A large percentage of people in America’s prisons are illegal aliens. Illegal aliens who are wanted for crimes in other countries prefer to be in America where crime is more lucrative and prisons have nicer accommodations. Criminals prey upon the weak. In many cases, that means the young, the elderly, and the handicapped. Often, senior citizens are the targets of criminals who are illegal aliens.
One of the main ways that illegal aliens hurt senior citizens is through identity theft. Senior citizens live on their identity for retirement checks, social security funds, Medicare medical services, retirement funds, etc. Although everyone is at risk for identity theft, senior citizens are more exposed to the possibility of becoming victims.
Identity theft costs Americans billions of dollars per year. The presence of millions of illegal aliens in the U.S. is the chief engine that is driving the identity theft criminal activity.
Following are three paragraphs from an identity theft article in the August 2007 edition of Good Housekeeping magazine.
“In Utah and Houston, where many cases of Social Security ID theft are in the courts, prosecutors say that a majority of imposters are illegal immigrants. There are no national statistics.”
“‘Some immigrants cross the border, go to an ID mill, and say, “I need an SS card and this is the name I want on it,” explains Houston Assistant District Attorney John Brewer. ‘They get jobs, start working, and eventually—when they realize they’re not going to get caught—grow more comfortable with the number. Then they go the next step and sign up for a car loan or mortgage.’”
“And they usually get away with the crime because there are surprisingly few checks to stop this kind of theft, say prosecutors: Employers aren’t required by law to verify Social Security Numbers and some car salesmen and mortgage brokers are willing to overlook a fishy credit report in order to complete a sale.”
A news article which appeared on ABC7Chicago.com for July 11, 2005 stated, “An elderly woman on Chicago’s South Side may be the victim of identity theft and could lose her home because of it. Eighty-three-year-old Lillybella Peagram has lived in the 3500-block of West Van Buren for 45 years. Recently, she received notice from a bank that they will be foreclosing on her home due to an unpaid 0,000 loan taken out in 1990. Peagram says she never took out any loans. Her friends believe her identity was stolen.”
A woman in California who had not worked in years got a letter from the IRS demanding over ,000 in back taxes from a job in Texas. She investigated and learned that her identity had been used at 81 jobs in 17 states from Florida to Washington State. Although it can not be proved, it is likely that her identity was used by illegal immigrants.
But, identity theft by illegal immigrants doesn’t just hurt senior citizens financially. It hurts senior citizens physically, too.
An insurance card or a Medicare ID number is like a credit card with a two million dollar credit limit.
A headline on the front page of the March 15, 2009 edition of the Chicago Tribune told readers, “In the U.S. illegally, Mariana de la Torre used a fake ID to get 0,000 worth of medical care. . . .”
When a fake ID is used to obtain medical care, the permanent medical record of the true person becomes POLLUTED with false information. This is very dangerous.
Imagine that your mother’s identity was stolen for medical services to an illegal alien. Then, imagine that your mother is in a car accident, that she is taken to a hospital, and her permanent medical records are polluted with false information because of ID theft by an illegal immigrant.
http://illegalaliennewsupdate.com/archives/9470
-
ANSWER:
While it is said that most illegal aliens are law abiding, except for breaking immigration laws, working illegally, not paying income taxes .....it is also a fact that a significant percentage of illegal aliens have no respect for the rule of law and our legal customs. Many come with anti-American attitudes and philosophies that are totally alien to our culture.. The end result is an ever-growing lawlessness among large portions of the illegal alien communities. It only makes sense that illegal alien criminals come to the United States this is where the money is and our jails are a whole lot nicer than what they have in their home countries and our laws more lenient.( I keep looking for the shadows the poor illegal alien s are hiding in) I sure don't see any hiding I see them marching, protesting demanding rights they have no right to,and rioting. No shadows!
Property crimes being committed by illegal aliens. However, like the activities of other equal opportunity criminals, many property crimes are drug related, an activity that many illegal aliens, especially illegal alien gangs, are involved in. While violent crimes against ones person are the most serious, if your identity or car is stolen by an illegal alien you won't be too happy about it.As a small example of property crimes, according to the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles, 85,600 cars were stolen in Phoenix alone. The owner losses are estimated to exceed .64 million. Most of the stolen cars ended up in Mexico and were never recovered. How many of those cars were stolen by illegal alien criminals versus resident criminals is unknown but you can rest assured that illegal aliens had a large part of it..Identity theft is rampant, seniors are robbed, there homes broken into and conned into giving out their social security card numbers, their Medicare cards, credit cards stolen. The illegal alien is the only one that profits from this type of theft.Criminals both legal citizens and illegal aliens steal, rent, borrow, counterfeit, trade for drugs, and supply ID to criminal illegal aliens. The older American may be incapacitated and unable to report or prosecute this action even if its detected early.
They purchase cars open charge accounts ,rent or buy homes all on the stolen ID.They are the scum of the earth.Where are the so called family values,or is that just for their family?

QUESTION:
Where should we move to?
Where would you like to live or retire in the US?The question becomes difficult to answer when family, friends and work are NOT part of the equation. Usually people relocate based on one of those three things.
Most people want to live in an area with a low crime rate, great schools, a warm climate, affordable housing, plentiful jobs and good hospitals.
Even so, not everyone will agree about the best place to live. Some people prefer mountains, some prefer the desert or maybe the ocean.
We are still not sure where to go, even after going through the Forbes “Best Places to Live” list and other similar web sites.
We are self employed and have a child with special needs. We are originally from Illinois but we have lived in Arizona for the past decade. We are looking for a change outside of these two states but we will likely travel back to Arizona in the winters if we will be living in a cold climate.
Criteria
We need to be within a 10 or 20 minute drive to a very good hospital.
Must be within a 45 minute drive to a reputable children’s hospital.
Must have excellent schools and a low crime rate.
There must be fun things for kids nearby, like a big city zoo, parks and recreation.Fair weather with four seasons (or at least a little snow in the winter).
Elevation must be less than 4,000 feet at all times (cannot travel above this altitude). We want to live in the country and we need a minimum of 7 acres for horses.
We are looking for privacy, nice views and clean air.
We like trees and green grass, not so much rocks, sand and cactus.Shouldn’t be too cold in the winter or too hot or humid in the summer.
Cannot be further east than Ohio.
Oregon, Washington state, Colorado, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Arkansas, Louisiana and Tennessee are all out of the question.Needs to be within a 50 minute drive to a big city with an international airport.
We don’t want to spend more than 5k for a 2400 square foot house in nice shape on at least 7 acres for horses, just a little outside of town.
Tax rates, short term economic growth and real estate trends do not concern us much, however we don’t want to live in an unclean area.
I work at home and do not need to commute anywhere. Satellite internet and a regular telephone keep me in business.
We realize that not all of the criteria can be met, so everything is listed in descending order of importance.
You can either respond here or visit our site at http://www.relocationcontest.com

QUESTION:
Why do republicans oppose banning credit checks for non-financial jobs?
They continue living in the belief that "your credit score is your true character and shows how responsible and fit you are for the job". They don't care if you are qualified for the jo or what your education and work experience is. I had medical emergency which landed me in the hospital for strangulated hernia surgery in abdomen. I was hospitalized for 2 weeks and the bill ran into tens of thousands of dollars. I was unemployed at the time and had no health insurance. As a result the only option was to file bankruptcy protection to avoid being taken to court by hospital. After i recovered from the surgery, i applied for jobs and it appeared I was almost hired until the employer found I filed bankruptcy and rejected me. I was applying for computer programmer job. The recruiter told me, "bankruptcy is automatic disqualification regardless of any other factor". And on top of that, republicans already oppose universal health care. And even today republican states and republican politicians try to block bills that call for banning credit checks for non-financial jobs. Only blue states of Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington ban credit checks for non-financial jobs. Maryland, Illiniois and about 8 to 10 more blue states are considering such bans. But republicans and their supporters oppose such ban. Why?
so because i had medical emergency surgery, that makes me an irresponsible person, loser and not fit to do any job?
i have bachelor degree in mathematics and associate's in computer science.
when i asked the employer to give me in writing that i am not fit for job because i filed bankruptcy due to medical bill and surgery, the employer refused to give it in writing
amalone: if a company is being abusive, isn't it government's job to keep check? Why are there so many laws concerning the workplace safety and hazards? OSHA was specifically created for that reason. Also why are there overtime laws? It definitely is government's job to ensure companies don't act abusively-
ANSWER:
this is also a reason why the recession doesn't seem to end and why the unemployment rate is stubbornly high. Employers are making it harder than ever to get job. They look for any kind of excuse to reject you. If I know the name of companies who engage in such practices, I would not buy their products or use their services. If this is a persistent problem, then consider moving to Oregon or Washington. I know it sucks to change state, but job is very important

QUESTION:
Should I go out of state for college? or stay in state?
ok. here's the deal....
I will be going to college in 2 years when I graduate high school.I live in Houston Texas. I don't know for sure what I want to major in but I am interested in being a nurse(I volunteer at hospitals in the medical center). I have been looking into going out of state for college because I am tired of Texas.
places I am considering: in no particular order
Salt lake city, Utah
Las Vegas, Nevada
Denver, Colorado
Seattle, Washington
NYC
Boston , Massachusetts
Phoenix , Arizona
somewhere in California
Portland, Oregon
Anchorage, Alaska
I want to move out of state because I want to be independent and I want to explore different places and live in different places. I don't want to end up like those people who are afraid to leave the place they have lived their entire life.
I will be hopefully graduating college in 6-7 years (counting the two left in high school) so I hope the job market will be better. If I go to college in state I will probably stay in Houston or go to Dallas, I would be going to Dallas for their nursing program and would hopefully get a job at parkland hospital and if I stay in Houston I want to get a job at somewhere in the medical center.( hopefully)
So what do you guys think I should do? Did any of you guys move out of state for college?why?.......Did you stqay in state for college ?why?
Please help me I need advice? any input would be greatly appreciated.
Also If it affects anything....I am home schooled and I have been since 8th grade. I am in the 10th grade now.-
ANSWER:
Since you know you want to go into nursing, your first consideration should be to see which schools offer the best nursing programs. Unfortunately, fewer people are pursuing nursing. While this creates a great job market opportunity, more and more schools have discontinued their nursing schools due to low attendance. So first research which colleges offer nursing programs. The big consideration going out of state or staying in-state is that going to a state school in your resident state is cheaper for state residents. Unless you've got scholarships, financial aid or are rich, that's a big deal. Average private and out-out-state tuition costs are about ,000 to ,000 for tuition alone. And it usually goes up 7-8% every year. Since you are determined to go out of state, then also consider your travel, moving, and living costs. Think about how you will pay for all that.
Home schooling shouldn't be a problem in terms of academics if you've done well. If you've been well-acclimated and exposed to a lot of people in different social situations, you should be fine. If not, it might be a little overwhelming at first. But if you're someone that can adjust well to new environments, you'll be in a for a grand adventure.

ANSWER:
Stay in state the tuition will be cheaper. You are wanting to be a nurse, make sure the school you choose is acreditted so you can continue your education, if you want a masters in Nursing or possibly go another route and become a nurse practitioner (spelling). Anyway save your money, Dallas is a good first move from Houston. Also the safety net of not being an 8-10 hour drive away may come in handy if you ever need something from the P's while away at school. Trust me if you have been home-schooled since age 13, just going to any college will get you all kinds of new friends and experiences.

ANSWER:
Hey, I was home schooled as well, and am actually from Alaska. So first off, I'd have to say I do not recommend the U of Alaska in Anchorage. It's got good graduate programs, but for undergraduate you're better off somewhere else. Plus, it's cold and not a super city in the winter. As far as in state vs out of state, I'm going to school in Georgia and I have to say I definitely recommend not going to school close to home. I think if you stay too close you end up not completely living and growing during your college years, plus it limits your choices. Try and go visit potential schools, stay overnight in a dorm and sit in on a couple of classes.
Just to plug my school for a second, if you're a girl Agnes Scott College has a great nursing program that we do with Emory University (a very well known medical school) and you would actually graduate with two bachelor's degrees, one from Agnes and one from Emory. We're a women's college though, so if you're a guy just ignore this last part lol.

I am also planning to take SAT subject tests in Korean, Spanish, and maybe another subject.
All of the scores are expected to be around within 650~750.
NOTE: It is expected that I get my Associate of Science. I am planning to transfer all or at least some of my credits to a four year university. If possible, I would like to write about my experience in the Running Start program. This experience is far different from the typical AP students life. Running Start allows students to engage in community college material, interact with adults, and gain a sense of independance. Obtaining an Associate of Science is a notable accomplish for a high school student. Overall, my high school life is far different from other's. And I would like to share that with college admission officers.
Universities I am interested in:
University of Washington
Johns Hopkins University
Stanford University
Emory University
Boston College
Boston University
Columbia UniversityInterested majors: Biology for Med School, Dental School, or either Pharmacy School.
Please give me your very honest input and provide thoughful suggestions to enhance my profile.
I appreciate all tips and thanks in advance!-

QUESTION:
What are my rights as an employee in washington?
I recently took a week off work for a wedding, the day I was supposed to leave I came down with swine flu, and my trip was delayed until the day before the wedding. Now, since I have no medical insurance I needed to get a print out of my last two pay stubs before I left town so the hospital could determine what financial help I'm able to receive, and my boss questioned why I wasn't already out of town. As I was busy, I had to hurry. I didn't think much of it, since I had those days scheduled off anyway. While out of town I fractured my leg. I'm still not sure how bad it is or if it will prevent me from working the duration of the healing time, but the doctor who saw me at the hospital out of town said to stay off it until I see my doctor. The soonest I could get in to my doctors office is Wednesday. I called my boss and let him know what was going on, as I needed to know if I needed to get a note from my doctor or not. I heard no word from him yesterday and texted him early this morning. He replied back telling me that even with a note from the doctor that if I missed those shifts and didn't have anyone to cover for me I'd lose my job. He's now telling me I will not be on the schedule for the next six weeks. So, I'm not sure if I work on my next scheduled day off or if I'm off the schedule for six weeks. If I miss my next scheduled work day I could get fired, even with a note from the doctor and I'm not sure what my rights are in this situation. He had texted me and told me that this was a right to work state and that he could do what ever he wanted (Meaning fire me if I didn't show up for work.) I live in the state of Washington, if that helps at all.-
ANSWER:
IN the US, unless you are in MT, employment is at will. Absent a union protection or a collective barganing agreement or an employment contract, they can fire you for any reason; except an EEOC violation (A "wrong" reason).Injury was not job related. You really don't have anything here if you don't do the things he requred.
FMLA might be a option if you qualify and if you asked for it when you called in initially. Not so sure after the fact.

QUESTION:
improve SAT scores?
I scored REALLY low on the SAT..
Critical Reading 470
Math 410I want to go somewhere like washington state university.
I am a junior, I have a lot of extra curriculars:
-Soccer; captain
-tennis
-key club
-young life
-Be the change club
-Panther Pals
-Leadership
also 300+ hours volunteering at a hospital
I have 2 jobs-some colleges ask if you have a job..
3.6GPA
some college credit because my state offers a program where high school students can take college classes through a community college.
I have also been involved in club soccer since I was 8(since I want to play in college)
4 years of spanish
AP biology
AP psychologywill these scores effect my chances of getting into college?
I want to be a pediatrician
Is there anything else I should be involved in?-
ANSWER:
You're involved in plenty of extracurriculars to be accepted into a college. Aside from the SAT score, you have a stellar resume.I don't think the SAT will keep you from being accepted to a good college, but it may be a good idea to give it one more try just in case.
Take some practice tests online or from a book. I think the courses are worthless, but if you get accustomed to the test and its format and tricks, you'll be better prepared for the next test.

ANSWER:
First thing you need to do is take a deep breath. Now relax. Now stay relaxed. You are wound up pretty tight from all the stress you are putting on yourself. I know the requirements have tightened and there are fewer freshman admissions than five years ago, but I'd say your scores and your grades are just fine. UW is not Harvard, after all.Define failure, please. Not going to UW your first year? That's not failure. It's a little bad luck. A minor detour on the master plan. If you've done all you can do to gain admission, it's all you can do. It's out of your control. Besides, failure is nothing more than a signal to adjust a course of action.
Rather than worry yourself sick and torture yourself with blame over something you can't control, start thinking about a contingency plan, should UW shut down freshman admissions altogether because of drastic budget cuts.
The smartest decision I made affecting the quality of my college education was to start at Gonzaga University with the intent of transferring to UW. I ended up at Arizona State U, but at Gonzaga I learned to balance academics and college life. I had a blast!
When I transferred to the big school environment 2 years later, I was more self confident with excellent study habits and a highly developed work ethic. I had no anxiety or doubts about my academic readiness as an upper-classman in an advanced learning environment, which by that time, included graduate level coursework.
Learning to relax your mind and letting your brain rest and regenerate are just as important to the physiology of acquiring knowledge as time spent studying. Creative thought and new ideas come from a relaxed state of mind, not from frantic study overload.
You can't really study for SATs. You should be satisfied with your scores and move on to the next step in your preparation for college. No matter what anyone tells you, happiness doesn't depend on status symbol achievements--getting into the best schools, pursuing certain careers, climbing the corporate ladder. It is YOU, not the college you attend, that determines the quality of your college education and the depth of your knowledge.
So, for your own health and future, slow down and give your mind a break from the stress. Your brain will thank you!
Best of luck.

Was accepted into and participated in the Junior State of America Summer School last summer at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. It was three weeks long, where I took AP Govt, met senators and debated current issues.Volunteered for local hospital as a licensed pharmacy assistant and delivered medications to patients.
I worked since last feb. as a staff writer in news/ reporter for the Eastern Washington University newspaper, and started this at 16 years old. My boss doesn't know how old I am. I will continue this job next year.
I just completed a surgeon job shadow at Sacred Heart Medical Center. There were 50 applicants, 4 were chosen, and I miraculously got in somehow. lol. That was very cool.
I was also accepted into the Yale University Junior State program two weeks from now...I am awaiting word from my parents as to whether or not I can go this year. ><
Worked as a library intern the summer before last.
I am going to write a book this summer.
EC's:
Cross country sophomore year

Job hopefully
Junior State of America (well, only for one year
)
Hope to do a really cool senior project involving my Columbia University physics professor and biology.Staff Writer/reporter for The Easterner
Here comes the bad part...my GPA is only a 3.58 at this point. I will work very hard to raise it. IT'S GOING UP. I'm a perfectionist, but I don't want to set myself up for failure. Please let me know if I can get into a top school, or if I just be realistic and start looking at state colleges.
I just took the SAT but I wasn't in tiptop shape (family problems before it--didn't study, it was only a dry run), and I got an 1880. I know that's really low for the schools I want. However, I know that I can raise my score; I want at least a 2100, and I'm studying over the summer.
P.S. I am a white female.

QUESTION:
can someone please proof-read my culmination project?
It takes as little as an ampere to kill someone; however, electricians are often surrounded by up to 200 amperes daily. The job of electricians became important around 1881, when there was a big enough interest in lighting the streets such. Electricians have one of the most important jobs of all. They make sure that people have power, and that things that run off electricity are always working. Having no electricity can cost companies thousands of dollars. In hospitals when the electricity goes out, people's lives are at stake. Almost all electricians go through an apprenticeship, or on the job training. They will always be needed, because nothing can replace the work done by people inside homes and businesses. Electricians are responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining various types of electrical systems and structures.Even though electricity was discovered in the early 1700's, there was no such thing as an electrician until 1881. "Edison and other electrical inventors showed off their inventions at world fairs. Electricians were hired to operate the electrical parts at the expositions" (wois.org). Today, they mainly do the same thing. Except that it is not just in expositions. Now they repair and install electric systems in people's houses, in large factories, outside telephone wires, and skyscrapers. Electricians were the ones that made our daily lives as easy as they are now.
An electricians work is not all cookie - cutter. It requires some amount of skill that cannot be taught in a classroom. "Less than 5% of all Washington state electricians have a bachelors degree or higher" (wois.org). Most of the electricians go through an apprenticeship program, following a two year professional - technical school. Then they attend a four year on-the-job apprenticeship. They may also be trained through the military. Training lasts for 25 weeks depending on their specialty. To become apprentice, they must have a high school diploma or GED. They must also have a college level algebra class with a "C" or better. To become professionally licensed, they must get a high score on an electrical trade's aptitude exam. They must also have 8000 hours under direct supervision of a journeyman - level electrician. 4000 of the hours must be industrial or commercial work. They may also obtain a license by equivalent verified training in the military if they pass the licensing test.
Almost all of the fields in the service industry cannot be done by a robot. The electrical field is one of them. Half of becoming an electrician is knowledge, the other half consists of skills, abilities, and physical demands. Some of the demands vary from simple things like using their fingers to assemble small objects, to being physically active for long periods of time. Different types of abilities they need range from multitasking to judging cost, to having quick and accurate math skills. Being an electrician, there is not a lot of grueling, backbreaking work. It is mostly just wires and electrical components. It is usually a 40 hour a week schedule. Also there are many opportunities for overtime and on-call work. The national median yearly salary for electricians for ,780. The benefits they receive vary by who they are hired for. Many jobs are found by electrical contractors, self employed, temporary worker agencies, and automobile manufacturers. "In addition to jobs created by the increased demand for electrical work, many openings are expected over the next decade as a large number of electricians retire" (bls.gov). There will be very many job opportunities for new electricians. The ones who have already been in the field will most likely take the place of the older, more expirienced workers who retire which will leave the entry openings available. A more exact statistic from wois (The Washington State Career Information System) states that; "Between 2006 and 2016, the number of new jobs to open up in this occupation in Washington State is expected to increase by 14.8%. It is estimated that 259 openings annually will be due to new positions, and 481 openings annually will be from workers leaving this occupation" (wois.org). So there should not be any problem for new workers to find a job when there are 740 jobs per year just in Washington State. Electricians are needed in every state, continent, and country. There would be many opportunities for moving to another place if the electrician wanted to travel.
The person who I decided to be my live source for my culminating project was Seth Cooper. When Seth first started becoming an electrician he went to school for three hours a night, two days a week in Boise, Idaho. The rest of the time he was an apprentice working at a hospital making 50 percent of that of a journeyman electrician at the time, which was .25 an hour. The good part was that his schooling was paid for. He has been a journeyman electrician for five years now. He is hired by the Oregon Electric Group an

QUESTION:
I need to know as much as possible about Native/Aboriginal reservations!?
I'm writing a book, and I need to know as much as possible about Native/Aboriginal reservations, so if you've been to one or live in one, please answer my plea!
Here are a few questions I NEED answered, but it'd be great it you can throw in a few more random facts. Thanx!
1. Are Native/Aboriginal reserves called reserves, or reservations?
2. I'm making one up near a small town in southern Washington state. Is the reserve on the outside of town, or would it?
3. Are they just a wide plain, or can there be forests, rivers, lakes and such in a reserve, and how big is a medium-sized reserve?
4. Are reserves gated off?
5. At the entrances, are there signs bearing the name of the reserve?
6. Would it be appropriate for students from a high school out of the reserve to take a field trip into the reserve?
7. Do reserves have shops in them?
8. Or hospitals or police stations, etc.?
9. Would doctors be in the reserve?
10. Would the people living in the reserve have jobs outside the reserve, or are there places inside the reserve that they work at?
11. What would be an estimated population for a medium-sized reserve?
Thanks!
Oh, if I come up with any other questions, I'll add it on to the question.-
ANSWER:
1. Reserves in Canada, Reservations in the US
2. Some reservations are located right out of non-reservation towns but other reservations have large cities established within them(Wind River, Wyoming), others can be small communities within larger cities (Las Vegas Paiute Tribe), some reservations have small towns on them (Navajo Nation/Pine Ridge Reservation) while others are just a group of homes and tribal buildings in the middle of nowhere (Hungry Valley Community - Reno-Sparks Indian Colony).
3. The reservation is what the surrounding area is. In South Dakota it is rolling plains, in Arizona it's desert, in Minnesota its forests. As far as size goes do you mean land area or population? Some reservations are large (Navajo Nation) but the population is spread out sparsely across the land. Other reservations are smaller but have tons of people living on them (Ft. Hall Reservation)
4. Gated in what sense? Mine (Duck Valley) has a fence surrounding it but others are not fenced. None I have been to have an actual gate but that doesn't mean they don't exist. (gates that is)
5. Yes, each entrance will usually have a sign stating something to the effect of "Entering such-and-such reservation."
6. Appropriate?! Why are they coming to the reservation? To look at the Indians like animals in a zoo!? (not appropriate) Or maybe to tour the tribal fishery? (appropriate)
7. Depends on the reservation. Some reservations rely on tourism and those reservations would probably have some sort of shops on them. However, many reservations are for the people who live there (not visitors) and so have just the necessities - grocery store, gas station, etc.
8. Many reservations have a clinic and some have hospitals. There is a difference. Most also have a police station.
9. Some reservations have a doctor but most have nurses or EMTs or even a PA.
10. There are usually a limited number of jobs on the reservation, usually tribal related. Some people will go to town for a job, commuting daily from the reservation but it really depends on how close to a large town the reservation is located.
11. Medium sized again, IDK, maybe 1000-2000 people.

QUESTION:
It Only Took Police 20 Minutes to find the Lady Who Was Missing for a Week Once They Actually Agreed to Look?
A husband had tried for a week to get police to actually look for his wife. The police finally got off their tail on the 8th day after she went missing.
The police simply checked cell phone triangulation records. The police found her within 20 minutes.
Why did it take so long for police to take action?
The lady luckily is alive but wasn't far from death. She's still in serious condition at the hospital with kidney failure.
Which party is the governor of Washington state? She he apologize for doing a poor job?
Imagine if some kids were allowed to die because the police took too little action. Imagine if a child lost a parent because the police wouldn't do a tiny bit of work for a week.

Yikes... It's possible that the governor is a Democrat. Should we simply blame the White House?-
ANSWER:
WOW! Talk about lucky. That husband should be given a medal by the police department.

QUESTION:
I'm 50; am I stingy for wanting to move and leave my 18 yr old son?
My third husband, Jim, who is now my ex husband, is from Montana originally and has been there since 1995. I was raised in Ohio. In 1987, I met him just has he was getting out of the Air Force; we were stationed there at Homestead AFB together. In 1988 we got married, and he went over seas with me to my assignments. In 1990, we moved out to Washington State from my Air Force assignment in Germany. We didn't know of a place to go to because we had no jobs when we came back to the states. His brother's wife in Montana suggested he go stay with her brother in Spokane until he got on his feet. Samantha, my new baby, Kelly my daughter from a prior marriage, and I stayed with my sister in North Carolina until he got a few good pay checks. I didn't get along with my sister, but she offered to let me stay there temporarily.Samantha is almost 21 now, and she moved from Spokane, WA to England nine months ago because of a college project shes doing over there. In three months she will move to Florida.
My 18 yr old son, Nevin, lives only a city away from me. Samantha and Nevin have the same father.
He just graduated from high school yesterday. Jim comes to Washington to visit Nevin maybe once every couple of months.I have a 30 yr old daughter, Kelly, in Florida by my first husband.
I also have a 13 yr old son, Gavin, who lives with me in Spokane. Since 1991 or 1992, I have wanted to go back east to live. I never planned on being out west so long, nor do I like it. I have been telling the kids for many years that I was going to leave after they both graduated.
I have Asthma and I want to move somewhere where it is warmer than Washington. North Carolina has warmer weather than Washington. Cold weather effects my asthma horribly. I take 5 to 6 meds a day in the winter and I'm still sicker than a dog in the winter.
Second of all, I want to move back to that area because I have family and friends in Ohio and Florida. I left Ohio in 1981 to join the Air Force.
Third, Durham, North Carolina has a college where I would like to finish my degree.
Fourth, the VA Hospital in Spokane, WA where I live is pretty bad. I really want to get back east where the VA's are closer together, so I can get better medical care. I can not afford insurance.
My 18 yr old son is trying to talk me into not leaving Washington. I know he will miss me and his half brother, Gavin. I know Gavin will miss my 18 yr old. Nevin and Gavin get along real well. Gavin's father died, so he really only has Nevin. But the problem is, I don't want to stay out here in Washington or this side of the country any longer. I waited until my 3rd husband's children graduated before I decided to move back east. I'm thinking, Nevin might just move to NC too at some point. After all, he does like Charlotte, NC a lot. Nevin has a pregnant girlfriend that he lives with; she is 19. They depend on me for a lot of things as he doesn't have a car yet and neither does she. The baby is due in August, and they don't even have a washing machine. His girlfriend has already told me that she would never want my help with the baby. I kind of feel like I did my part, and am free to go now. I will miss my 18 yr old son horribly. Am I wrong for wanting to move?
Send me an e-mail too if you like.
-
ANSWER:
No!It's not ANY of your fault, you shouldn't feel guilty because your son can't keep it in his pants. If his girlfriend doesn't want your help, so be it. Nevin needs to man up, get a job, buy a car or washing machine, and raise his kid! You're a grown woman! you're free to go, ma'am, you and your son. maybe with you being gone, he might decide to. He's manipulating you!

-The high school i attend is top 25 in the nation (if that matters at all)
-I think my essays are strong. If you know my chances of getting into the UC schools please tell me also. Thanks so much!!
-
ANSWER:
You have a really great chance of getting into UW. Don't worry about friends already getting acceptance letters. UW starts pretty early (December 1st) so it may just take more time. With your GPA, SAT, honors and everything else, you should get in! I'm not sure about the UC schools, but I'd say Davis and Irvine are more possible than SD. Not being from CA makes it a little more difficult though! Good luck.

QUESTION:
Why would a company have to send a paper to another state for a background check?
I applied for a position in healthcare and found out that the hospital was told to send a paper with my signature to Washington. I live in Georgia now but lived in WA before. I am trying to understand why the hospital would have to send a document to another state when I live here. I have the job as long as the background check clears, I am just wondering if something else is wrong. I have a driving while suspended on my record now. When the school ran the background they didn't have to send anything to WA so why is this company doing it. I also was under a different name when I lived in WA, I am married now. Does that make a difference in the way background checks are completed. Please only serious answers...I don't need any smart comments k~ I need to provide for my family. Thank you for your help!
But why did the company have to send another paper to WA. I am just trying to figure out why another paper with my signature had to be sent. And where did they send it? I gave them my name before I got married, and I told them about the driving stuff.-
ANSWER:
A background check involves anywhere you have lived. They check for warrants on the local level with the local police department where you used to live. Only felony warrants do not require checking at the local level.

QUESTION:
How do I deal with my mentally and emotionally abusive mother?
In a very round-about way, my mother kicked me out when I was 16. Although most people would be angry, I'll admit that after the initial feeling of abandonment, I felt it was the best thing she had ever done for me. After 2 years of being away, we began talking on a regular basis and our relationship greatly improved. I'm 19 and moved back in to my mother's house, along with my boyfriend (who moved here to Pennsylvania from Washington state to be with me) until we were able to afford our own apartment. Things were great for a while, and everyone was getting along, and then after about a month and a half she turned back into the mentally/emotionally abusive person she was before she kicked me out. While looking for jobs, my boyfriend and I were doing all of the house chores (and I literally mean all of them, including everyone's laundry and such) to make up for the fact that neither of us were contributing any money to the household. Whenever either of us did receive money, 90% of it went to household items such a groceries and toiletries. Unfortunately, this is a very small (and fairly barren) town and with no method of transportation aside from walking, we're unable to obtain jobs. We decided that it would be best to move to Washington with his family, but still need to live here for approximately another month.
She's been saying all kinds of crazy things to me, telling me that he's mentally and emotionally abusive, and that he reminds her a lot of her abusive ex-husband. Mind you, he also abused me and I've encountered abusive boyfriends (whom I've parted with because of their abusiveness) so I'm fairly certain I'd know if he was abusive or not. None of our personal friends or even family friends agree that he is mentally abusive. On top of that she's been telling my whole family that he refuses to get a job, he's abusive, is sketchy, etc. Her own mother has laughed at the things that she's said, but she hasn't let up.
She's become ridiculous in her behavior, telling us and my younger brother that we all eat too much. I'd like to mention that my boyfriend has a BMI of 16-17 (underweight) and although I'm overweight, I've lost about 20 lbs in the last few months with absolutely no effort. In an effort to appease her, we went to the store and bought about worth of food and kept it in our room, so as to leave all of the food in the family kitchen for her and my brother. About 4 days later, she opened our door, saw a single box of cereal, and began "crying out of anger and frustration" because we were "hoarding food". So it would basically seem that we're not supposed to eat more than a small meal's worth of food a day from the kitchen, but we're not allowed to buy our own food and not eat anything from the kitchen as well.
There's a lot more that she's done, but I feel as though I'm simply rambling at this point so I'll spare you. Just to give you an idea of how stressful the situation is, I suffer from anxiety disorder and fainted in the kitchen about a month ago (which I had never done before in my life) and then 2 weeks later had an anxiety attack when I was simply going to bed, and almost had to go to the hospital since she took all but one of my anti-anxiety pills. It's worrying my boyfriend to the point where he insists on staying here with me while I get some legal things straightened out, instead of going to Washington ahead of me and simply waiting for me so that he'll know that I'm okay and he can keep an eye on my health.
How can I deal with her until I can get the h*** out of here?
-
ANSWER:
Your mom is mentally unstable. She should speak to a therapist. You and your boyfriend should sit down with your mom and speak to her as politely as you can. Say "Mom I don't like the way you are treating us. We do all of the house work by our selves and you have no respect for us. Why do you have to be so mean?" Just sit down and talk.

QUESTION:
Steps to being a RN with OB/GYN or L/D or Midwife practice?
Hi, I am currently waiting to start school in the spring.I am going to be doing a CNA class to get Certified .. then eventually Registered. Hoping to knock out of pre-reqs for the Nursing Programs in Washington State ....
I am hoping to next year (winter) to get into a ADN program at any of the local community colleges ... getting my LPN, first year, then RN second year.
If my plan goes as I hope it does, or even takes longer than that, cause the program is full ... what steps do I take afterwards to become a RN, that works with OBGYN or the L & D Ward at Hospitals. I know I have to have 1 to 2 years of experience, so that would be the first step getting a job as a RN ... first .. but what steps can i take to help me advance and get more experience ...
(any advice or tips would be awesome)
.... oh on another note ... if anyone knwos what YWAM is, I can do my DTS this summer for 6 months ... and then next July 2011 .. go and do a BAS, which is a Birthing Attendant School, where for a year, I learn midwifery curriculum and go into the field of third world courntries and work with young mothers for womens health and care and education and pregnant women, and actually get to put my skills to practice and deliver babies and offer pre-natal and post natal care ... I am excited at the chance to maybe do this ... would this help me out that much more when it comes to this??? I would be getting my CNA first .. but probably wouldn't be able to get my LPN .... so good idea or bad??
Thanks in advance everyone .. idiotic answers just for points will be ignored ...
I did a little more research ... and I need my ADN, then my BSN ... and possibly I could do a Hospital Diploma in lieu or on top of both degrees ....Generally about how much on average will my Associates then Bachelors cost.
-
ANSWER:
Delivering babies is not to be taken lightly--it is one of the field where malpractice & complications can have profound consequences particularly in third worlds where pre-natal care is poor. You also do not want, for this very reason, to try & shortchange any education you need for this. It may look easy but it is in fact, not. (FYI mid wifery-RN is usually closer to 3 years training, not 1). I suggest putting the brakes on this a bit and doing what you were going to do first--get the RN (eventually you will need a bachelors degree), and working in L & D or similar to get a really good foundation; then move on into the next phase. As to getting the LPN first; if that is part of the associates RN, no big deal. But other than that, it is sort a waste of time if you can go directly into the RN program, as you need the RN, not the LPN to work L & D & move up. Do not do a hospital diploma if you have sights on a nurse-midwife or nurse practitioner. Costs depend on where you go to school--CCs are the cheapest; state universities next.

QUESTION:
How to respond to an insult at a family gathering?
My Brother in law's girlfriend is a total witch. She is really not intelligent (didn't know the difference between Washington state and Washington D.C!) and is badly home job bleached blonde, and has been married 5 times and shot her first husband and was put in a hospital for it,she doesn't work, and lives in her mother's trailer. I need help coming up some cool, clever way to put her in her place. Now, with all that, I know the obvious, lol, but I want to make it look good to my in laws. Like I am just responding to her and make her look bad, know what I mean? She HATES it that I am ready to graduate college and have bought a nice home, so I would like to make a dig about that, without being...well...too mean, I want to be clever, not mean.I am soooo not good at coming up with stuff like this, I usually just want to punch her, lol.
Help!
-
ANSWER:
Do you just come up with vendettas on people that haven't lived their lives as well as you? You did say that she was a total witch but on the whole, your question kind of makes you look hateful. Better if you just didn't go to the family gathering if your going to premeditate being ugly to someone.

QUESTION:
OK, WOW... please read carefully, this is Jerry Springer SH$$!?
ok.. I am going to begin at the very beginning. I met a man online about 3 years ago. We started to date long distance flying back and forth to see one another. I was a single mother of 4 boys and I really wanted a man to love in my life. I had been divorced for over 6 years and kept meeting men that I couldnt stand. This man that I met was awesome with my kids and after a 6 month period of time, we both decided that we didnt want to live apart. I was in Washington state and he was in Kansas. He was transferring as a Federal officer to Colorado and asked me to please move there. Even though I was terrified to move, I did it. I got there, I took a job, I worked over 100 hours a week to get back on my feet after a move. His transfer never came through after waiting there working like a dog. He then asked me to move to Ks. During the time I worked in Colorado he called me and told me that he needed money to pay off a hospital bill or he would loose his job... due to officers not being .
Officers not being allowed to have bills. He told me that he wanted to get married. We had spent almost every weekend together for over a year. I decided that I loved him enough to do just this. I packed up my kids and myself and I moved to KS. We had a date for marriage set for 1 year. That was my choice because I told him I wanted just a little more time. I ended up getting pregnant, so we pushed the marriage up to only 2 mos. He went in and bought himself a ring and gave me an old ring. After we got married, I was working a job where I ran into two women that he had sexually been with who were massage therapists. The whole time he was broke, it was my money I was sending for his massages, and he got extras for sex. The whole time we have been married, he hasnt bought one gift for me, my ring was his ex wifes old ring, and even though he hasnt cheated after marriage, his cop friends have said that he was hanging on this dispatcher telling them he would have sex with her. I dont think
I dont think the man loves me at all. He has never taken me out, and he is always accusing me of cheating. I know have a baby girl by him and pregnant again with another. I am scared and I dont know what to do. I am getting depressed, the sex is even all about him. He has never even taken care of my needs, its always me taking care of his sexually. I dont know what to do????????????????-

QUESTION:
Help! What to do for a year waiting for RN school.?
So here's my situation. I will soon have completed my DTA in nursing the Direct Transfer Agreement to transfer to a 4 year school then get my BSN. I had to retake my anatomy class so I won't finish until this summer. So basically I have a WHOLE YEAR to apply to BSN programs. I will be applying to like 5 across washington state. So I was thinking for that year should I 1.) Get a job save money and volunteer at a hospital on the side. ( Note: I already have over 100 hours of volunteer time at a multicare clinic) 2.) Complete a LPN program. 3.) Complete another program that takes a year like Dental Assistant or Pharmacy Technician for a backup career kinda thing. 4.) Complete a CNA class then work as a CNA during the year to get experience. 5.) Just apply to RN programs but not the BSN programs. I'm really undecided because I can't choose. Please help me choose with any advice you can I want whatever would be in my best interest. Thank you for all who respond!-
ANSWER:
It really is up to you but i would
keep volunteering at hospitals no matter what you do and since you already have maybe try to volunteer in a different department in the hospital. Than I would decide if I can afford to take LPN if so than take that and get some good volunteer experiences or maybe a part time job at the hospital while taking your LPN.
BUT if you can't afford that than volunteer at the hospital still and talk to someone there about working full time at the hospital too because you want to become a RN working and volunteering there would be a great thing on your resume and it could help you find out what kind of a nurse you want to become, also you get to save money and have less loans later when you go to university/college.

QUESTION:
Please help me. The hospital put me thousands in debt over an ER visit?
I honestly feel like crying right now. And for a grown man, that's saying alot. Here's the story...On august 1st (just a month ago) i had the worst stomach pains i've ever had in my life. I was hyperventilating, sweating, and just all around freaking out. I've had really bad pains in my stomach before, but i didn't go to the hospital because i don't have insurance. So i held out and dealt with the pain. but on this day, it was so bad i was about to pass out and it was scaring the people around me. So, my girlfriend rushes me to the hospital and they give me a morphine drip for my pain and order a couple scans. A CT scan and an ultrasound of my stomach. Also a urine sample. I waited and waited. I first got there at 1pm and didn't get any real results until about 5:30pm. The doctor came in and told me i had gall stones and that the only treatment really is to either go on a bland diet or have surgery at a later time to get my gall bladder removed. So, he prescribed me some vicodin/ib profen and i was out of there by 6:30pm with a generic pain reliever prescription and a print out from google of what a bland diet is.
I've gone on the bland diet and the pain has come back anyway, so they didn't really help other than to diagnose my issue. But that's beside the point. My real issue is this.
I assumed since i was only there for a few hours and i didn't even have surgery or anything that my bill wouldn't be so bad. Maybe ,000-3,000. And even then, that would be alot for me. A week later i receive the bill in the mail and mine and my girlfriend's jaws drop. I got 2 separate bills: 1 for the scan that was 0. Okay, not too bad. The other from the hospital itself for ,000! I'm...simply dumbfounded. And the breakdown on the sheet of all the costs just made my stomach/emotions sink so low
,000 for the use of the little room i was in for only a few hours
,000 for the other scan
0 for the lube they put on my stomach for the scan
And alot of other little overpriced things that added upAnd just today i got another bill for the doctors/nurses totaling 0. I'm so...sad right now. I'm in my mid 20's working part time as a janitor because it's the only work i could find. I only make 0 a month and i co-support my 6 year old daughter. How am i supposed to pay for this? These bills shot down any hope i had of moving up in the world. I was going to get a better job, save up for a better car. All that. And now from only one visit i'm thousands in debt. What can i do? I feel so ripped off. This has affected me to the point where from now on if anything is wrong with me, even if it's serious, i won't go to the hospital. With my mentality now, i'd rather die than go. What are my options? How will medical debt follow me? The more i google the more freaked out i get about all this. Can they take away my car and garnish my checks if i can't pay? I'm just...in shock. I'm hoping someone on here can help me out to calm me and my family down a little.
Info about me:
I make 0 a month
i rent
I don't have any assets other than my car and even then, my bill is worth 5 times more than my car
I live in washington state
I don't have insurance and social services actually said i make too much. Too much? Ha! I'm poorAny help, any links to any programs or phone numbers or anything would mean the world to me

ANSWER:
Yes, this is jaw dropping. There is no reason for a same day ER visit to be this high...but then again, we have a profit based health care system in the USA...where the primary motive is to make money.
Ask them for any sort of charity care or hardship discounts...maybe you can get the bill down to under K.The good news, as state above, is that your wages (at their current levels) are exempt from garnishment due to federal laws...so if they took you to court they could not touch your wages...assuming your income stays at this level. The bad news is that if you start earning more money, then they could garnish your wages. (They have no direct power go garnish wages by themselves. They'd have to take you to court and win a judgment first.) This puts your in a bind in that you'd be stuck in a low income job for a long time to dodge having your wages garnished. If this does not work for you...or if you find that they are aggressively coming after you for all this debt without giving you any sort of break, then consider using Chapter 7 bankruptcy. You would for sure qualify to file. If you take this route, then be sure to get health insurance after you file.
FYI: If you get sick again....don't wait until the pain gets out of control...go to a free clinic or an internist who at most might charge you ...If you live in a large city, go to a 24-hour immediate care center. ER's are generally for life threatening emergencies...Just walking through the door will cost 0.

QUESTION:
Wrongful Firing From Job? Should I Get A Lawyer?
Ill try to make this short and to the point.Im in washington state. King county if that matters. I was working at Walmart.
June 1st {monday} I was in a car crash. I got injury's to my shoulders and neck. Went to the hospital got meds & a doctors note saying I needed to be on light duty. No repetitive movement with my shoulders and no lifting over 5lbs. June 2nd (tues) I went to work. My shift was from 2-11 I made it till 8pm ish doing my normal job before i broke down into tears because it hurt so much. They sent me home. Wednesday I had the same shift. stayed till about 4:30 ish then was sent home. The store manager told me not to come in thursday. Friday I went in and they fired me.
According to the store manager they did not have to keep me as an employee and I did not qualify for LOA or any type of help because I had not been there for a year {3 months short of a year}.
On my firing sheet it says "was in a car accident on june 1st and can not preform her duty's had no other spots to temporarily place her in"
I only had to be on light duty for 1-2 weeks tops. Ended up being a week and 2 days i need light duty.
Is walmart in the wrong? Should I get a lawyer and go after them?
Please help!
email me if need be for more info!!!!

ANSWER:
No Harm trying, Some Lawyers would take up case at no cost to you. U just have to check around and be convincing.
Instead of asking around .. just pick up phone and dial some lawyers and see if they can help.
Lawyers will usually(at least some) give some honest advice /suggestions. Dont stop at 1 or 2 calls tho. You would need to call around at least 5 to 6 to get an idea.
Hard shot against WM corp lawyers.. but as I said.. no harm trying.Good luck.

QUESTION:
can i transfer universities?... should i?
i'm currently attending UTSA as a biology major and have been thinking about transferring out somewhere else... possibly Southwestern University [Georgetown, TX], Texas A&M University, or University of Texas. I'm thinking about out of state- George Washington University, University of Florida, & University of Colorado. i'm planning on either pre-professional or graduates in biosciences...
background:
i had a rough start in my freshman year withdrawing mid semester in the spring because i got very sick.
i have one F in an architecture class [after research- i found that it will not transfer to any universities i would possibly apply to--- should i still retake it?]
i had 2 D's of which i received a B in both after retaking...i should have about a 2.8 after the summer grades roll in later this month. i will have been in school 2 full years- going on my third... i have about 40 credits toward my biology major- a few more that i pretty much wasted my money on...
should i transfer universities?... should i wait till next fall to apply? ... should i retake the architecture class i failed even if it won't transfer?... is it worth it to transfer to any of these universities??
thanks for the help!
ohh- i was also an early highschool graduate- i work 2 jobs and volunteer at a hospital, nursing home, and various political/ activist rallys

ANSWER:
Due to your poor record many universities will not accept you and if they did probably not all of your credits would transfer. Why are you taking architecture? If the reason is important to you then you should retake the course./

QUESTION:
I have a chronic condition, how do I bring it up in an interview?
I have chronic IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), and though I have multiple other pretty bad health conditions, IBS is the only thing keeping me from a great job. I get flare ups, and have to go to the hospital sometimes more than twice a month to get IV infusions because I can't eat or even drink water.
What I'm worried about is finding a new job. I can not stay where I am, it's not rewarding and only pays minimum wage. While I'm so super grateful to even have a job, I just really can't convince myself that it's okay for me to stay here. So what do I do? How do I tell my employer that I have this conditions? Also... the medication I use for it is not legal, but I have a doctor's authorization and everything that I need for it under Washington State RCW laws. Should I even worry about bringing that up? What if they do UA's?-
ANSWER:
The safe approach would be to bring it up late in the interview process by saying in the past you have had issues with IBS and this might come up in the reference check. (And reading between the lines here will come up if they drug test.)You can not know the future so don't project forward that you will need time off for this. The company may take your honesty to heart and hire you if you have the skill set they seek. But if you try to hide it, they might let you go during probation if you have a flair up.
Tricky issue.

ANSWER:
i really doubt you will get into harvard or yale or princeton/stanford/brown. that is unless you are fast enough to run track there, and have talked to their coaches.i would say you do have a chance at cornell and upenn, i have a few friends that have been accepted there. Although i think they had slightly higher SAT scores.
I would say your chances are pretty high as far as those other schools go, you'll get into UW no problem. UCB might be a little bit tough, but i would say you do have a chance of getting in. most of those schools you should get into.
but of course i can't say for sure, i'm not an admissions officer.

ANSWER:
Your SAT score is low, but everything looks great. Are you from the D.C. area? If so, you'll be competing with your own classmates for admission to the top schools, as well as against other kids from your county (i.e., against some of the toughest competition in the country). Many of them will look mostly at East Coast schools (especially in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast), so you can increase your chances of getting into good schools by looking a little farther afield. Schools like Rice, Wash U., Northwestern, Chicago, Carnegie Mellon and the U. of Washington are all good choices. You also might want to consider Oberlin, Wisconsin, Michigan, Vanderbilt, and Emory.

ANSWER:
I would say you have a pretty good chance. At my high school, if you get an A in an AP class, it counts as college credit/ extra credit on your GPA. Also, you seem to have been very involved, which looks good on an application. I have/have had family friends go to Northwestern, Washington University, Carnegie Mellon, and University of California. They all had similar GPA's, or ones very close.
